Norman Park is a mostly residential suburb in Brisbane, four kilometres from the city centre. With a population of 6,003, the suburb is part of the City of Brisbane.

History

Norman Park is likely named after an early estate in the area, which is thought to have derived its name in the 1890s from the nearby Norman Creek, and the contemporary Governor of Queensland Henry Wylie Norman. Settlement first started in this area in 1853 and industries included dairying, leather, and brooms. Norman Park remained a largely rural area until after World War II when rapid development took place as the result of the construction of public housing. Former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd lives in this suburb.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

With plenty of parkland, cycleways and cycle routes spread throughout the suburb, it is a popular area for cyclists. The area also has parklands and sporting fields popular with walkers.
