The suburb of Nathan was named in 1967 after the former governor of Queensland Sir Matthew Nathan. The area is well known for the Toohey Forest Conservation Park and the Griffith University’s Nathan Campus. The suburb has a population of almost 4,000 people.

History

As the suburb has grown over the years, it has become popular with a broad range of ethnic groups. This has made Nathan a place with nearly 30% more overseas-born residents than Brisbane. The Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre became famous in 1892 when the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games was held there.

The area has several educational establishments and there are also plenty of places to sample foods of the different cultures that live in and around the suburb. Outdoor pursuits and nature are the mainstays of the area and there is a diverse variety of wildlife in the conservation areas.
