Mt Gravatt is one of the largest suburbs of Brisbane and is situated 10km southeast of the city. It has a population of over 3,200.

History

Mt Gravatt is named after a prominent hill with the same name in the suburb. The hill was named after Lieutenant George Gravatt in 1840. For two months in 1839, he was the commander of the Moreton Bay Settlement.

Electric trams ran from the suburb into the CBD along Logan Road between 1953 and 1969. Because the suburb was at the end of the line, it was known locally by the name “The Terminus”.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The Mt Gravatt Showgrounds are an important centre in the suburb for cultural and community activities. It is also the site of the Mt Gravatt Show, an agricultural fair that takes places every year. The grounds are opposite the mega-church, Hillsong Brisbane Campus, and are positioned on Logan Road.
