Miami is a coastal suburb in the City of Gold Coast, and is 7km south of Surfer’s Paradise. It has a population of 6,364, according to the 2011 census.

History

Miami’s history begins in the 1920s, as prospective investors wanted new developments in the area. The development, Miami Shore, had cottages that were rented to tourists. After the Great Depression, the suburb grew, with new tennis courts and a sporting complex. By 1963, the local Miami State High School was open.

Miami is home to Pizzey Park, and many visitors come to play sports, including rugby league, soccer, and softball. With its proximity to the coast, it is an ideal spot for those who want to enjoy sun and surf without the crowds of Surfers Paradise. Miami has some local eateries, including an Indian and Italian restaurant, and the vibrant Gold Coast centre is a short drive away.
