Manly West is a residential suburb near Redland City in Queensland, 16km from Brisbane GPO. It has a population of over 11,000.

History

Manly West was originally an extension of the bayside suburb of Manly. It was named after this suburb and was officially gazetted in 1975.

Settlement of the Manly district was originally centred on the railway line and along the coast. At the time, the area now known as Manly West was used for farming.

During the early postwar years, residential subdivisions moved inland from the railway. In 1958, Manly West primary school was opened. Wondall Heights primary school opened ten years later.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Manly West is home to three shopping centres, with Mayfair Village Shopping Centre being the largest of these. It also has a few parklands and a bowling club. Every fortnight, the Brisbane City Council’s mobile library service visits Mayfair Village Shopping Centre.
