Hermit Park is a Townsville suburb based 2km south-west of the central business district. It’s part of the City of Townsville local government area, and has a population of more than 3,500.

History

When Hermit Park was first established, it was thought of as being quite remote. This is how the name arose. It came under the governance of Townsville in 1918, and underwent much urbanisation in the years that followed. Hermit Park has blossomed into a reasonably affluent area, having struggled somewhat in the latter half of the 20th century.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Hermit Park’s shopping centre was significantly improved in the early-2000s, becoming something of a local hub. Bicentennial Park falls within its boundaries, as does Corcoran Park and its netball association. Hermit Park is largely residential, although several businesses do the call the suburb home. Its commercial area includes several restaurants, as well as the popular Cheesecake Shop and the Cat’s Meow foodie cafe.
