History

The name of the town is an indigenous Australian word. It means “home by the sea”. It was originally the name given to a stopping point on the South Coast railway line in 1922, and the suburb grew up from there.

Elanora has a variety of facilities for residents including several schools, a public library and two shopping centres. The Pines shopping centre contains 80 shops including three big supermarkets. There is abundant parking there, and you can also reach it by bus. If you like being active, Elanora has an indoor sports centre and a golf course.
