Based in Queensland, Eimeo is a coastal town and suburb in Mackay. Located 14km north of Mackay Central, the suburb falls under the Whitsunday State Electorate. According to the 2011 census, Eimeo has a population of over 3,300 people.

History

Eimeo takes its name from a pastoral run that was used by Jeremiah Downs Armitage. Historians suggest that he named it after his birthplace in Eimeo, Tahiti.

In 1934, Eimeo opened the Eimeo Road State School. This is the largest school in the Isaac, Mackay, and Whitsunday region. School records show that over 1,200 attend the school. In 1949, Eimeo opened its first post office. However, this closed in 1972.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Eimeo boasts several heritage-listed sites. The most famous of these is Mango Avenue. The street features a collection of mature mango trees that stretch for 150m.
