Eldsvold is a small town in Queensland. Based in the North Burnett Region, Eidsvold lies 160km west of Maryborough, and has a tiny population of 630.
History
Eidsvold takes it name from Eidsvold Station nearby. The station itself is named after Eidsvoll in Norway.
Eidsvold was originally explored by Thomas Archer, one of William Archer’s five sons. In 1848, Archer gained a pastoral run and gave the town its name. In the 1850s, prospectors discovered gold in the area. However, it wasn’t until 1886 that major mining began.
In the next two years, Eidsvold’s population increased to 1925, 800 of which were miners. The town grew and soon saw eight hotels, many stores, a church, two sawmills, and a Salvation Army temple. The mining boom did not last long and by the 1890s, Eidsvold became more pastoral
