History

A product of the property explosion of the 1880s, East Brisbane has always been made up of mostly housing estates. Many classic Queenslander houses were built here, most of which still remain. The suburb used to be connected to the rest of the city through electric trams, but these were replaced by buses in 1969.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

One of East Brisbane’s biggest attractions is the Heritage-listed Mowbray Park. This three-hectare stretch of draping trees, winding paths, and fresh lawns hold a famous war monument, and offers great views of the CBD. Other East Brisbane Heritage sites are Hester Villa, Triumph Cinema and the Mowbraytown Presbyterian Church. Dining options include The Wolfe, Banana Leaf Thai and Sushi Kotobuki.
