Based in Queensland, Eagleby is a suburb in Logan. It sits on the southern bank of the Logan River and lies northeast of Beenleigh. According to the 2011 census, Eagleby has a population of over 11,900 people.

History

According to local legend, European settlers asked a local aboriginal what his tribe called the eagles nesting near the river. He answered, “Eagle be Mothchya”, and so, the name Eagleby was formed.

Eagleby’s southern sections formed part of the original survey for Beenleigh. At the time, it was a farming community, part of the initial German settlement. 1876 saw the raising of St John’s Church, and 1882 introduced the first post office.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

These days, Eagleby is known as the home of the Twin Rivers Food Co Op and the Beenleigh Distillery. The suburb has a local pub and a state school.
