Dakabin is a small suburb of Queensland with a population of around 1,400. It is situated 26 kilometres north of Brisbane’s central business district and offers a quiet lifestyle.

History

The area of Dakabin takes its name from the Aboriginal language. It means “grass root” or “grass tree.” Dakabin was a rural suburb up until the 1970s.

A post office opened in town in 1923, along with a baker, sawmill, fuel merchant and two timber getters. Around the same time, Dakabin was home to nine farmers who engaged in fruit growing, grazing and dairying.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Dakabin is close to North Lakes, shopping centres and a cinema. There are a couple of schools in the area and a nearby train station. It is a peaceful suburb with great access to sporting facilities and parks.

The Lakeside International Raceway in Kurwongbah is located close to Dakabin.
