History
The settlement of Daintree Village was established in the late 1870s. It was named after Richard Daintree, a British geologist exploring the area in the 1860s. Along with the Daintree River which flows nearby.
The area was initially used for its Red Cedar trees. Loggers used the river to transport goods to the coast. Dairy and beef farming later became important industries to the region.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
The village has become a tourist haven for taking tours on the Daintree River. There are a number of accommodation options for tourists.
In 1986, Queensland’s wet tropics gained World Heritage status. Daintree is part of that area and thrives on association with the tourist town of Port Douglas.
