Corinda is a suburb in Brisbane, 8.8km southwest of the CBD. It has a population of over 4,500.

History

The name Corinda is thought to have come from a local cattle station owned by Sir Arthur Palmer. He named this after his pastoral station near Aramac.

It was first settled in the 1860s as a small farming community. Some of the first settlers to Corinda were the Francis family. In 1862, they purchased 21 acres. Francis Lookout, a local heritage-listed landmark on Dewar Terrace, survives to this day.

In 1874, the first railway line opened. After the 1920s, the commercial district saw rapid growth.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb is home to two main parks which both share the same name but are separated at either end of Corinda. One is a forest reserve that includes Carrington Rocks and Carrington Boat Club. The other is near the state school and the bowls club.
