Coomera is a thriving suburb of the Gold Coast. It lies 54km from Brisbane and 24km from Surfers Paradise. The population is 8,793.

History

The name Coomera comes from the Aboriginal word meaning a species of wattle. By the mid-1860s, the Coomera River had become an important waterway for timber workers working in the Hinterland.

A few years later, a ferry service was established downstream at Lower Coomera. This ferry was the main link to the coast road until the Coomera Bridge opened in 1930.

Coomera is primarily a residential area with many new housing developments in the pipeline. The area has good access to highways, good schools and excellent sports facilities.

For thrill seekers, Coomera is a theme park heaven with Dreamworld, Whitewater World and Warner Bros. Movie World all close by. Coomera River offers a quiet retreat and the fishing here is superb.
