Clayfield is a suburb of Brisbane. It sits in the inner north of the city, just 7km from the central business district. The suburb has a population of 3,450. It borders both Kalinga and Kalinga Park. Eagle Junction is a part of Clayfield.

History

The suburb takes its name from the clay mined in nearby Albion. Clayfield has many sites of historical interest. These include Lyndhurst, Ralahyne, and Stanley Hall Turrawan, and Tarranalma. The suburb was home to an electric tramline that closed in 1969.

Women’s rights campaigner Mary Hyacinthe Petronel White lived in Clayfield. Other residents of note were the businessman and politician James Campbell and the flying doctor Timothy Joseph O’Leary.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb has a number of schools and churches. Notable schools include Aviation High, Clayfield College, Eagle Junction State Primary School, and St Rita’s College. It is also served by a bus service from both Clayfield and Eagle Junction railway stations.
