Carina is a leafy suburb of Brisbane, 7km east of the Central Business District. It borders the suburbs of Carindale, Carina Heights, Camp Hill and Cannon Hill. The population is 10,301.

History

The suburb takes its name from the estate built by Ebenezer Thorne in the 1850s. He named the estate Carina after his daughter, Kate Carina. Prior to this, the area was home to the Murri indigenous people.

The land in this area was used for farming and timber getting. Following the Second World War, the area quickly developed with the construction of public housing. Carina is now mostly a residential area.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Carina is a popular suburb to live in with its great facilities and close proximity to the city. The area is surrounded by parkland and within easy walking distance to a host of shops. It lies a short driving distance from The Gateway offering easy access to the airport as well as the Sunshine Coast.

The Clem Jones Sports Centre provides great sporting opportunities such as cricket, baseball and hockey. The suburb is home to the Carina Tigers Rugby League Football Club.
