Calamvale is a large suburb located 18km from Brisbane city centre near the Karawatha Forest. The town has a population of over 15,000 people.

History

Calamvale is named after an early settler called James Calam who built his family home on a hill near what is now known as Beaudesert Road. The area had been known as Calamvale for a long time before finally becoming officially recognised in 1972.
The Calam family sold their homestead as recently as 1984 and the Calamvale Hotel was built on the land. Development has progressed since the 1990s with many young families moving to the area.

This mainly residential suburb has a host of facilities including several schools, churches and a police station.

The Golden Pond Wetlands is a peaceful, eco-friendly wetland built around a creek and several lagoons. It’s also home to an array of wildlife such as ducks, turtles, wildfowl and water dragons.
