Welcome to Broadbeach, QLD
The Gold Coast suburb of Broadbeach is a water user’s paradise. The area is built around several canal waterways and Lake Intrepid. The area plays host to the yearly Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival and has a population of over 4,500 people.
History
One of the first commercial uses of the area was during the 19th century when the Nerang River was used in the timber industry as a place to collect felled wood in the form of logs. This cedar, ash, beech, teak, and mahogany timber would have been cut further upstream and the river used as natural transport.
The suburb has been a seaside township since shortly after 1934 when the area next to the Pacific Highway was first surveyed. The suburb gained the name Broadbeach shortly after and 70 plots of land were made available at that time.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
The area is home to the Gold Coast Convention Centre, two modern shopping centres, and the Jupiters Hotel and Casino. The area is well served by the G: link tramway system, the highway network, and even a monorail that connects the Jupiters Hotel with the Oasis Shopping Centre.
The Broadbeach skyline is dominated by the striking architecture of the Oracle tower blocks while much of the residential development is single or low rise.
