History

Brassall used to be part of its own shire, the Shire of Brassall, in the 19th century. But in 1917 it became part of Ipswich. No one is certain of the origin of its name, though the area used to be called Hungry Flats. This was when it was a stop off point for people transporting pine between Pine Mountain and Hancocks.

Brassall is a charming area with a number of heritage-listed buildings. They include the Klondyke Coke Ovens and the Mihi Creek Complex. The suburb meets the Bremer River in the north, and Ironport Creek in the west. Both are excellent places for an afternoon walk. Brassall has a row of shops and restaurants to suit every need.
