Bracken Ridge is a terrific family suburb in Queensland with an estimated population of 17,000. It is located 18 kilometres north of Brisbane’s central business district and close to Sandgate Beach and Redcliffe Beach.

History

Bracken Ridge was originally called Bald Hills. The area of was named after a local property that was set among lots of bracken ferns. It’s a suburb of the 1960s and 1970s. The Housing Commission built the first houses in Bracken Ridge in 1966.

In the early 1970s, locals welcomed a shopping centre, as well as new schools and churches.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

There are lots of parks in the suburb including Bill Brown Sports Reserve, Enbrook Parkland and Bracken Ridge Reservoir. A few heritage-listed sites can be found in the town like Bald Hills Cemetery on Barrett Street.

Bracken Ridge offers great shopping, such as Woolworths and easy access to the coasts. The wide leafy streets make walking to the local bars, restaurants and cafes a real pleasure.
