History

Boondall used to be named after the creek that runs through it, Cabbage Tree Creek. The word ‘Boondall’ may be derived from an Aboriginal name for ‘crooked creek.’ European settlers arrived shortly after a bridge was built over the creek, bringing industry and money with it. A railway station was built in 1882. Transport growth was encouraged with the building of the Gateway Motorway, which cut through the wetland.

The wetlands in Boondall have long been a protected area, and allow for many scenic walks. The wetlands are home to over 190 species of bird, and a variety of animals. There are several shopping centres with countless familiar brands. The Brisbane Entertainment Centre is located near the train station. It hosts live shows all year round.
