Situated on the edge of the Gold Coast hinterland, Bonogin is a hinterland locality of the City of Gold Coast, South East Queensland. It is located 81km from Brisbane and has a population of over 4000.

History

Bonogin is said to have derived its name from the Aboriginal word Boonoo which translate to “red bloodwood”.

European settlement began in the 1870s where timber cutting, dairying, and banana growing industries developed in the area. In 1925, a sawmill was recorded in the post office directory. A state primary school was open from 1913 to 1924.

Some of the farms were re-occupied and subdivided in 1980 to form land for residential developments.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Davenport Park is a suburban park in Bonogin. It runs along a lower point of the creek. In 2013, the Bonogin Valley bushcare group was formed with the aim of restoring the park and creek area.
