Based in Queensland, Bethania is a suburb in Logan City. It lies 30km from Brisbane’s Central Business District and sits on the main Beenleigh railway line. According to the 2011 census, Bethania has a population of over 4,500 people. The name Bethania reportedly comes from Bethany, Israel’s biblical village.

History

In the 1860s, Germans founded Bethania. In 1864, locals built a Lutheran church. By 1866, the area developed into a small township. From this point on, Bethania established a cemetery beside the church. In 1872, the suburb built their present-day church.

In 1887, a flood destroyed the suburb’s first railway bridge. It was replaced by a new timber, steel, and concrete bridge. This lasted until 1972.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Bethania is home to one school. It is called Bethania Lutheran Primary School. The suburb has one train station that has regular access to the Queensland Rail City network.
