History

Belgian Gardens was previously called German Gardens. It was named Heinrich Friedrich Alfred Robinson, a German settler. After anti-German feeling during the two world wars the area was renamed Belgian Gardens. The first school opened in 1887, and was used as an isolation hospital during an outbreak of flu in 1919.
