History

Bargara used to be part of Sandhills. Sandhills had its first school built in 1893. The name Bargara comes from Barolin and Woongarra, which are localities nearby. The town had its first post office built in 1923. Bargara is separated from the nearby town of Bundaberg by sugar cane fields.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Bargara is found on a stunning piece of the coast. The Esplanade runs along the shore and has a number of charming properties and cafés on it. The Promenade is the other main street in Bargara. The town is also near Mon Repos turtle rookery, part of the Mon Repos Conservation Park. The area is used to protect turtle nesting areas.
