History

In 1972, it was detached from Acacia Ridge and named after the main road in the district. The suburb’s name dates back to 1910, when a local family named it after “Alcester”, a British town.

In 1968, Leighton Properties planned a suburban estate in the area and suggested the name “Ridgewood Heights”. However, the Queensland Place Names Board officially named it “Algester” in 1972. The area was heavily developed in the mid-1970’s.
