Welcome to Westmead, NSW

Westmead is a suburb of Sydney, situated 26km outside of the city’s central business district. It has a population of over 14,000 and sits in the local government area of the City of Parramatta. It is also part of Cumberland Council and the Greater Western Sydney region.

History

When Parramatta was settled by the British, Westmead was part of the domain of government house. Subdivided for the first time in 1859, the northern and western meadows then became Northmead and Westmead.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Westmead is bounded by the Parramatta River and two creeks in the north. Parramatta Park sits to the east, with the great Western Highway to the south.

There are a number of health and education facilities in Westmead. There are large public hospitals, a private hospital, mental health clinic and three medical research facilities.
