History

The name Ryde comes from the Ryde Store, which was run by G.M. Pope who was born in Ryde on the Isle of Wight, UK. West Ryde is just one of 16 suburbs that make up the City of Ryde.

West Ryde was given a postal area in 1926. After the railway opened in 1886, the area became a busy commercial centre.
