Waverley is an eastern suburb 7km east of Sydney CBD. It has a population of over 4000. It is the highest point of altitude on Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

History

Waverley takes its names from Waverley House, a home built near Old South Head Road Barnett Levey in 1827. The house takes its name from his favourite book, Sir Walter Scott’s “Waverley”.

Founded in 1877, Waverley Cemetery is one of the countries most known due to its cliff-side location. Many famous Australians rest there. These include aviator Lawrence Hargrave and poet Henry Kendall.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

A residential area with few commercial developments, the suburb is home to a number of schools. The local team, the Sydney Roosters, represents the suburb in one of Australia’s most popular competitions, the National Rugby League. It’s home to many heritage-listed items and churches.
