History

Established in 1869, Valentine has a history of coal mining. The first cottage appeared in the 1920’s. This was despite the area having no water or power at the time.

Valentine is a suburb along Lake Macquarie. As a result, the creek was once a designated swimming area.

Valentine is home to a wide array of convenience stores. These include a butchers, a petrol station and a newsagents. There is also a GP’s office.

Valentine is a short distance away from the central business district in Newcastle. The area underwent extensive development beginning in the 1980’s. These days it is a large residential district.
