Umina Beach is home to over 16,000 people making it the most populated suburb in the Central Coast area of New South Wales. It is located 85km north of Sydney.
History

Umina Beach was once home to the Guringai aboriginal tribe and the suburb takes its name from an Aboriginal word which means ‘place of sleep’.

The first recorded entry to the area by Europeans was in 1788 when Governor Arthur Phillip landed at Ettalong Beach. Another investigation of Umina Beach and the Brisbane Water area followed in 1789 with the first land subdivisions occurring in 1914.

West Street is the centre of commercial activity in Umina Beach with a huge range of retail stores, restaurants and cafes open for business. Many big-name brands are represented on this lively strip which runs parallel to the beach front. Plentiful town centre parking makes the area very popular with both visitors and residents.
