Turramurra is a suburb on the Upper North Shore of Sydney in NSW. Sitting 17km north of the CBD, it has a population of over 11,000. It shares its postcode with the suburbs of North Turramurra, South Turramurra, and Warrawee.

History

Turramurra is an Aboriginal word thought to mean high hill, big hill, high place, or small watercourse. European settlers knew the area as Eastern Road. The area adopted the name Turramurra after the railway was built in 1890.

An early landmark of the area was Ingleholme. Designed by John Sulman, it is a two-storey federation home in Boomerang Street. Part of Presbyterian Ladies College until 1977, it’s now on the Register of the National Estate.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb includes a large shopping area along the Pacific Highway and Rohini Street. By the railway station, it includes many shops such as real-estate agents, bakeries, and banks, as well as two supermarkets.
