Strathfield is a suburb of New South Wales 12 kilometres west of Sydney’s central business district. It is one of the most convenient suburbs in Sydney and has a population of over 23,600.

History

The area of Strathfield was once lived-in by the Wangal tribe. In 1793, European settlers came to the suburb in search of land grants. A grant that forms the largest part of the current suburb was given to a man called James Wiltshire in 1808. The grant was later subdivided in 1867 and sold as the Redmire Estate. This led to many houses being built and the area being named Redmire.

In 1885, the suburb name was changed to Strathfield after Strathfield House.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Strathfield is home to some excellent schools, churches and houses. The area is also known as a regional centre for education.

The town centre includes the Strathfield Plaza shopping centre, shopping strips, cafes and restaurants. In addition to great commercial facilities, the railway station is a major interchange on the Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink networks.
