The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian government programme that funds support and services for people with permanent and significant disabilities.
To be eligible, you must be under 65, an Australian resident, and have a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to take part in everyday activities.
You can apply by contacting the NDIA directly, submitting an Access Request Form, and providing supporting medical evidence about your disability.
Yes, participants have the freedom to choose and change their service providers at any time to ensure they receive the best support for their needs.
Services may include personal care, transport, community access, assistive technology, therapy services, and home modifications, depending on your plan.
Funding can be managed by the NDIA, a registered plan manager, or the participant themselves, depending on what works best for your situation.
If your plan is NDIA-managed, you must use registered providers. If it's self-managed or plan-managed, you can also use unregistered providers.
Your NDIS plan is generally reviewed annually, but you can request a review at any time if your needs or circumstances change.
You may be eligible for interim or local area coordination services while waiting, but full funding only begins once your application is approved.
Look for providers who are experienced, responsive, person-centred, and flexible and who communicate clearly and respectfully with you and your support network.
