With a population of over 19,000, St Claire is a suburb in Western Sydney. 39km west of Sydney’s Central Business District, St Clair is part of the City of Penrith.

History

St Clair was originally inhabited by the Dharug tribe. However, the population of the Dharug tribe declined after contact with Europeans.

St Clair went through a number of naming changes over the following years. South Creek was the original name of the area. Years later, the area divided and took on two names – Erskine Park and St Mary’s. In 1981, the Geographical Names Board of New South Wales decided to change the suburbs to Erskine Park and St Claire.
