Welcome to Rydalmere, NSW

Rydalmere is a suburb, 21km north-west of the Sydney central business district near the Parramatta River. It has a population of over 6,000 people and has both residential and commercial developments.

History

The land now known as Rydalmere was first inhabited by the Darug indigenous people. They were displaced upon Governor Phillip’s arrival with the First Fleet in 1788. The land was then developed for farming to provide for the new English colony.

The first grant of land in the area was to Phillip Schaeffer in 1791 but Rydalmere was not fully developed until after World War II when it was acquired by the Housing Commission for public housing.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Rydalmere has a shopping centre and many other retail stores and facilities. It is also home to the famous Rydalmere Family Inn which was built around 1886. It has since become one of Sydney’s leading live music venues.
