Rouse Hill is an area in Sydney’s North West. It is a part of Greater Western Sydney with a population of 7,482.

History

The area of Rouse Hill was originally called the Village of Aberdour and Vinegar Hill. In 1857, Vinegar Hill Post Office opened and in 1858 Rouse Hill was officially named.

The locality is named after Richard Rouse. Rouse was a wealthy free settler who arrived in Australia in 1801.

The area is significant in Australia’s history, for the Castle Hill rebellion main battle in 1804.

Rouse Hill House, Rouse’s home is on the Register of the National Estate. Today, it is a museum run by the Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Rouse Hill has a large town centre operated by The GPT Group. The proposed North West Rail Link will make Rouse Hill more accessible to the CBD. There are also a number of smaller shopping centres in the area, making it popular with families and retirees.
