History

In 1788 the name Rose Bay was used to describe the area, by Captain John Hunter. During World War 1, Australian sailors were trained here aboard HMAS Tingira.

In 1938, Rose Bay Water Airport for seaplanes was established. Famous local restaurant Catalina is named after 9 Catalina flying boats. These boats returned soldiers to Australia in 1945, at the end of World War 2.

Today, Rose Bay features several heritage buildings, including Rose Bay Cottage, Fernleigh Castle, and parts of Kambala and Kincoppal School.
