Welcome to Regents Park, NSW
Regents Park in New South Wales is located 22 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district. It is in the local government area of Cumberland Council and Canterbury-Bankstown Council. The suburb is one of the best strategic locations in the heart of the city.
History
During the European invasion of Australia, the area was part of a land grant to Joseph Hyde Potts. He actually stole the grant before the first subdivision was made in 1880. The local school opened in 1899 and was called Potts Hill School. It was then changed to Sefton Park School before it became known as Regents Park School in 1929. There are now five schools in Regents Park including Trinity Catholic College.
In 1912, the original Regents Park railway station opened with only one line from Lidcombe. The present station was changed in 1924 when the Main South line connected Lidcombe and Bankstown in an attempt to reduce overcrowding.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
The suburb itself is named after a local property that was built in 1879, inspired by Regent’s Park in London, UK. From shops, eateries and entertainment facilities to schools, transport links and sports grounds, there’s always something to discover in the ever-so-charming Regents Park.
