Welcome to Quirindi, NSW
The small town of Quirindi is located on the north-west slopes region of New South Wales. The main occupation of the area is farming and the black soil plains make it ideal for both crops and grazing. The town is situated on the Kamilaroi Highway and the local government area is the Liverpool Plains Shire. The town has a population of just over 2,500 people.
History
The area was once the home of the Kamilaroi aboriginal people and some of the meanings of the word Quirindi include “nest of hills”, “place where fish breed”, and “dead tree on mountain top”. In January 1st of 1858, the Post Office opened in the town and in 1884 on February 1884 the area was officially gazetted.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
The area is well served by shops and other businesses along the main street and sport is also well catered for. Quirindi has several sporting ovals that cater for cricket, rugby, football, basketball, and netball. There is also a racecourse, polo grounds, tennis courts, a gun club, and a swimming complex too.
As well as the Boxing Day Races that are held every year in December, the area also hosts many other events including a Prime Stock Show and the Quirindi Rural Heritage Festival during the first weekend of May.
