History

In the past, Pyrmont was a key part of Sydney’s industrial area.

The locality originally had a mineral spring of cold water similar to a natural spring in Bad Pyrmont, Germany. As such, the suburb was named after this area near Hanover.

During early settlement, Pyrmont was a site of high-quality sandstone, making quarries popular in the area.

Pyrmont was a subject of urban decay after the close down of industries post-WWII until the 1990s.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Modern day Pyrmont has seen a large influx of young professionals. The suburb has the luxury of a suburban village lifestyle in the middle of the city.

Several large corporations are based in the area as well as having access to Darling Harbour.
