History

In Australian history, the area is known as a settlement for freed convicts. It later became a quaint rural village.

Famous naturalist, Charles Darwin, observed the geology of Prospect in 1836.

The name Prospect comes from the nearby Prospect Hill. This gives the area a romantic vibe. It suggests an open view of the surrounding New South Wales countryside.

William Lawson, an explorer who found a route across the Blue Mountains, built a house in the area, called Veteran Hill.
