History

Port Botany is a key place in Australia’s history. Captain Cook landed in Australia in 1770. His first port of call was Port Botany.

English naturalist David Banks spent days looking at local specimens. Banks worked with Swedish naturalist David Solander. The modern suburb gets its name from the bay that it stands on.

Modern-day Molineaux Point has panoramic views to La Perouse and Kurnell. Banks Wall takes its name from Sir Joseph Banks. The wall continues to stand in the present day.

The area is a major commercial port, today. It features major Container Terminal facilities.

Port Botany is an industrial suburb. Local residents are families of industrial workers. The area showcases many untouched bayside beaches. Various highways connect the area to the Sydney CBD.
