Oatlands is a beautiful suburb in New South Wales with a popular of over 5,000. It is 23 kilometres north-west of Sydney’s central business district and has lots of pretty homes and tree-lined streets.

History

The name of the suburb comes from Oatlands House. The property was one of the earliest homes built in the Parramatta district by a man called Percy Simpson. It is believed that the name of the house was taken from Oatlands Park in England.

In 1840, the land was sold to a man called James Bettington. He used the land for sheep farming. Nowadays, Oatlands House is used as function centre. The area became an independent suburb in 1991.

Oatlands Park has a small shopping centre with a supermarket, doctors, chemist, fruit store, chicken shop, butchers, hairdressers and post office. The suburb is famous for its golf course and is filled with trees and greenery.
