North Rocks is a suburb in both the Hills Shire and the City of Parramatta. Located 26 kilometres north of Sydney, the suburb has a population of 7,625.

History

North Rocks has a unique history, and was once the haunt of convicts and bushrangers. Its name comes from the literal North Rocks, a massive sandstone outcrop on the ridge of Hunts Creek. Unfortunately, these rocks are no longer there, as much of it was used for gaol walls, flagstones, and the local dam wall.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The commercial area in North Rocks centres around North Rocks Road. The North Rocks Shopping Centre houses the local Coles, Kmart, and specialty shops, and more developments are taking place nearby. The suburb is also home to the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children, which hosts a market every Sunday with new and secondhand items, as well as food.
