History

No-one is sure exactly where the name Lismore comes from. Some say that Scottish settler Jane Wilson named it after the place where she and her husband went on honeymoon in Scotland. Others believe the name comes from Lismore in Ireland, where the scenery is alike.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Lismore has a rich history of well-known residents. These include famous tightrope walker Con Colleano and rugby player Nigel Roy who were both born there, and the cricketer Adam Gilchrist.

Lismore is home to the Southern Cross University that welcomes students of more than 80 different nationalities. There are also a lot of schools in the Lismore area. These are both public and private.
