History

The first people of the land are the Cadigal people. Finds near the Cooks River suggest that they have lived in the region for upwards of 7,000 years. A smallpox epidemic in the late 1700s proved devastating to their population.

Lewisham’s namesake is a London borough of the same name.

Lewisham is very close to Sydney’s CBD. It has a connected transport system. The train station runs on the Airport, Inner West & South Line, which makes movement into the city and surrounding suburbs easy. It also has various bus services available. Quieter than surrounding suburbs in the Inner West, it is home to a number of schools and two churches.
