History

In 1869, Greta railway station first opened. The Hunter Line still passes through Greta today.
In 1939, the Greta Army Camp was opened as a soldier training ground. Ten years later, it became a migrant reception centre until 1960. During the camp’s 11-year operation, over 100,000 migrants passed through on their way to find a new life in Australia.
