FAQs

  • Why should I choose a monitored security service?

Without 24/7, 365 days a year monitoring - also known as 'back-to-base' monitoring - alarm activations rely on witnesses, neighbours or passers-by to respond - and most often alarms are simply ignored. Monitored security provides alarm response service 24/7, which gives you total peace of mind. Most often, back-to-base monitoring is recommended; an alert is instantly sent to the monitoring company and a patrol guard is dispensed or your designated contact is alerted.

  • What happens if my alarm is activated?

The response to an alarm from your property or premise will depend on the response option you select. Our qualified and experienced staff will discuss all these options with you, and advise you on the best option(s) for your requirements, during the design phase of your system. Most often, back-to-base monitoring is recommended; an alert is instantly sent to the monitoring company and a patrol guard is dispensed or your designated contact is alerted.

  • What are IP surveillance cameras?

Cameras which use 'Internet Protocol' to securely record live video to a safe, remote location.

  • If the power goes off, will my alarm still work?

Yes. Every alarm system has battery back-up which will activate to maintain your alarm protection for several hours in the event of a power outage. If your battery is low, a low battery signal will be sent to the monitoring station so you can be notified.

  • Will a home security system reduce the risk of being burglarised?

Yes. Studies prove that homes with security systems are 3 - 4 times less likely to be burglarised than those without. Why? Burglars look for homes without security systems in order to reduce their chances of being caught.

  • What is a DVR?

'Digital Video Recorder'. A DVR is an electronic component used to record video from a security camera, then compress it and store it on a hard drive.

  • Will I really get a discount on my home or business insurance?

Yes. Insurance companies know you are 3- 4 times less likely to be burglarised if you have an alarm system, so they are willing to apply discounts to your insurance. The level of discount depends on a number of factors, but many companies apply 15% or more! Contact your insurance company to find out what your specific discount will be.

  • What is a PIR?

'Passive Infrared Motion Sensor'. A PIR detects intruders by the heat they emit.

  • What is CCTV?

'Closed Circuit Television'. CCTV is a private television system involving one or more cameras connected to one or more monitors for security, surveillance, law enforcement and general purpose monitoring application.
